Met Office forecasters said it was "odds-on for a barbecue summer" with warmer than average temperatures and near or below-average rainfall.

And that will come as music to the ears of the millions that have chosen to holiday in the UK.

Ewen McCallum, chief meteorologist at the Met Office, said: "After two disappointingly wet summers, the signs are much more promising this year.

"We can expect times when temperatures will be above 30C, something we hardly saw at all last year."

The Met Office said that while there may be showers, a repeat of the miserable summers of 2007 and 2008 is unlikely

BUDLEIGH SALTERTON was originally named Salterne, because salt was once manufactured in large salt pans situated at the mouth of the picturesque River Otter. Owned by the monks of the priory at the nearby village of Otterton, the salt was carried by packhorses to the towns and villages situated along the river Otter

Opposite the wall is the thatched Fairlynch Museum, which has a permanent display on local history, costume and lace as well as many fascinating temporary exhibitions and is well worth a vist.

The area is an ideal base for walkers wishing to explore the Jurrasic coast whilst transport links to the rest of Devon are excellent. Exmouth,Sidmouth and Exeter are only a short drive away and Lyme Regis and Torbay are within 1 hour.
